Bengaluru (IANS). The Congress government in Karnataka on Sunday clarified that the central government has issued guidelines banning bangles for women workers preparing mid-day meals. A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said that a false propaganda is being spread that the Congress government in the state has issued a guideline to ban bangles for women mid-day meal workers.
The statement said that in fact, the central government has issued guidelines regarding the nutrition scheme and has banned the wearing of bangles by women mid-day meal workers. Some sections of the media had reported that the state education department had come out with guidelines banning bangles for women workers preparing mid-day meals for school children. This had led to a controversy which gradually took a communal turn, leading to the Congress government’s fact-checking team declaring that the reports were baseless and the guidelines were in fact issued by the central government.
