New Delhi: The Supreme Court in an interim order stayed the conviction of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case over his ‘Modi surname’ remark. The Supreme Court heard the petition for suspension of the sentence awarded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Modi surname case. During this, the court asked Mahesh Jethmalani, senior advocate of the complainant Purnesh Modi, who was arguing against Rahul Gandhi, that what grounds have been given by the court for awarding maximum punishment. Even less punishment could have been given. Due to this, the rights of the people of the parliamentary constituency would also remain intact.
The Supreme Court said that the order of the Judge of the Gujarat High Court is very interesting to read. He has preached a lot in this.
