
Raipur: Chhattisgarh State Election Commission has declared the program for the by-elections of the urban bodies of the state. Along with the announcement of the bye-election program, the model code of conduct will remain in force in such areas of the municipality where the election is to be held, till the election is over. In this regard, the concerned Collector and District Election Officer (Local Election) have been informed about the program by issuing an order. Under the by-elections of municipalities in June 2023, elections for the posts of councilors of urban bodies will be conducted.
According to information received from Commissioner Chhattisgarh State Election Commission Thakur Ram Singh, election of councilors is to be held in nine wards of nine urban bodies of eight districts of the state. This includes Municipal Council Champa District-Janjgir-Champa; Nagar Panchayat Khongapani District-Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur; Nagar Panchayat Kharora District-Raipur; Nagar Panchayat Tumgaon District-Mahasamund; Municipal Corporation Durg and Municipal Council Ahiwara District-Durg; Nagar Panchayat Bemetara District-Bemetara; Nagar Panchayat Ambagarh Chowki District-Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki; Municipal Council Kondagaon District-Kondagaon.
In a press release, the State Election Commissioner informed that information will be published in relation to reservation of elections and places by the district election officer of the respective district on 02 June 2023. On the same day the returning officer will start receiving the publication of the list of polling centers and receiving nomination papers. Nomination papers will be accepted till June 9 by the Returning Officer. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on June 10. The last date to withdraw the name is 12 June. The publication and election symbols will be allocated on the same day. Voting will be on 27th June and announcement of counting and election results (by returning officer) will be done on June 30, 2023.
