Despite the shortage in supply, nearly 42,903 people have been vaccinated in the age group of 18 to 44 years in Chhattisgarh.

State Government had ordered 75 lakh vaccine doses, but so far only 1.5 lakh doses have been received.

Payment against the order for vaccine has already been released to Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute.

State Government reiterated the commitment to provide free vaccination to all the citizens in the state.

To ensure free vaccination of people in age group 18 to 44 years in the state, Government of Chhattisgarh has ordered Covaxin from Bharat Biotech and Covishield Vaccine from Serum Institute. State Government’s Health Department has ordered total 75 lakh vaccine doses from both these companies. Chhattisgarh has paid Rs 6 crore 30 lakh to Bharat Biotech for 1.5 lakh doses of Covaxin delivered so far, whereas Rs 9 crore 35 lakh 89 thousand 650 has been paid in advance to Serum Institute for the 2.9 lakh doses of Covishield vaccine yet to be delivered.

As on 05 May 2021, 42,903 people aged 18 to 44 have been vaccinated in 28 districts of the state.

According to the information received from Health Department, order with Bharat Biotech was placed via mail on 26th April.

Krishna Illa, CEO of Bharat Biotech, was also requested to process the order as soon as possible. Order with Serum Institute was also placed via mail on 26th April. Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawala was also requested to process the vaccine order. As Government of India has granted permission to procure vaccine doses from the State Fund for the age group of 18 to 44 years, Chhattisgarh Government has ordered a total of 75 lakh vaccine doses from both the vaccine producers. It is noteworthy that CHhattisgarh Government has decided to provide free vaccination facility to all the citizens in the state.
