Jagdalpur: In the past few days, the Backward Class Society State Unit in Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Bastar Division, had submitted a memorandum in the name of the President, Prime Minister, Governor, Chief Minister to the Bastar Commissioner and Collector, demanding OBC reservation rights in the urban body elections and three-tier Panchayat elections. As no solution to the memorandum was found, today on Monday 30 December, the State is calling for a Bastar bandh and is seeking cooperation from the city residents and traders.
It may be mentioned that the backward class society has called for a bandh by blocking the roads in the entire Bastar division to draw attention to their reservation demands, the widespread impact of which is visible in Jagdalpur city, although the Bastar Chamber of Commerce and Industries has not supported this bandh. But since this morning, people of the backward class society have been taking out a rally in Jagdalpur city and asking for support from all the traders.
Till filing this report the bandh is being supported peacefully in the entire city and no untoward incident has taken place so far. In view of security, police force is deployed at the main squares and intersections of the city.
