New Delhi: News portal NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha has come out of Tihar Jail.
Prabir Purkayastha came out of Tihar Jail late on Wednesday night after the order of the Supreme Court.
Prabir Purkayastha was in Tihar Jail since November 2 last year.
A two-member bench of the Supreme Court ordered the release of Prabir Purkayastha, founder of news portal NewsClick.
The bench headed by Justice BR Gavai also said that the arrest of Purkayastha and his subsequent detention was illegal in the eyes of the law.
The court also said that at the time of Purkayastha’s arrest, it was not told what was the basis for it. Because of this the arrest is canceled.
Purkayastha was arrested in October last year under UAPA on charges of receiving illegal funding from China.
