News Edition 24: Founded on Sunday, 29th August, 1937, the Photographic Society of India, popularly known as the PSI, has completed 84 years.
The Society is considered to be one of the oldest societies of its kind in this subcontinent.
The Society was formed to promote the art and science of photography. It is a meeting place for all those who are interested in photography and who want to polish their photographic skills, irrespective of age, gender, caste, religion or nationality. The Society has members with varied professional backgrounds. Doctors, lawyers, engineers, bankers, politicians, architects, painters, professional photographers, etc. who congregate with the sole intention of pursuing their passion for photography.
The Society is a very active place. The Society organizes lectures, demonstrations, photographic competitions, workshops, outings, photography classes, etc. for the benefit of its members as well as for non-members. It also organizes photographic tours to picturesque and exotic locations. The beginners in the field of photography are especially encouraged to participate in these activities and they get guidance from the seniors.
Apart from organizing various photographic competitions exclusively for its members, the Society also organizes National and International photographic competitions which are open to all.
This year PSI has organized an exhibition of the specially selected photographs of members. The exhibition will be held at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai from 18th to 24th January, 2022 from 11.00 am to 7.00 pm. The inauguration function of the exhibition was held on 18 January, 2022 at 5.00 pm.
