News Edition 24 Desk: The Dominican High Court has granted interim bail to fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi on medical grounds. A key accused in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, Choksi has been given permission to travel to neighbouring Antigua and Barbuda.
The High Court in Dominica stated clearly that Choksi has been granted interim bail “strictly for medical treatment in Antigua”.

Mehul Choksi (62) was arrested in the Caribbean nation of Dominica earlier this year on charges of illegal entry. Wanted by Indian agencies in connection with the multi-crore PNB scam, Choksi had been living in Antigua since 2018.

Two matters concerning him are being heard by the Dominican High Court. The first matter pertains to his bail application, while the other is an application for leave to file for judicial review. Legal proceedings against him in the illegal entry case and judicial review application stand adjourned until Choksi is certified fit for travel. Choksi has been asked to deposit a bail amount of 10,000 EC (Eastern Caribbean Dollars).

Documents accessed by India Today reveal that Mehul Choksi’s doctors recommended neurologists based either in Antigua or the US for his treatment. The doctors suggested that Choksi suffers from a number of underlying conditions or comorbidites. His medical reports also say that he was allegedly subjected to electric shocks.
